TerrSet – a new name, a new concept and a wealth of advances. For close to 30 years, Clark Labs has been a pioneer in the development of geospatial software. The IDRISI GIS and Image Processing system set new standards for decision support in geographic analysis and remote sensing applications. Then we added the Land Change Modeler (LCM) for the empirical modeling and future prediction of land cover change – a vertical application built on top of a GIS. Next came the Earth Trends Modeler (ETM) – a radically new system for time series analysis of earth observation imagery for understanding climate and global environmental change. TerrSet builds on this trajectory, adding new vertical applications and a range of important new features to the existing base.

Clark Labs Hosts Two New Videos on Website Exploring IDRISI’s Land Change Modeler for REDD and Earth Trends Modeler for Time Series Analysis
Worcester, MA -- Clark Labs of Clark University is pleased to announce that two new tutorials have been added to the video series on its website. Both videos highlight functionality within the IDRISI software’s modeling applications: Land Change Modeler and Earth Trends Modeler.
The video entitled “REDD Baseline Modeling with Land Change Modeler in IDRISI,” demonstrates its use for REDD—Reducing Emissions from Deforestation and Forest Degradation. Utilizing a case study from Conservation International, the video highlights how Land Change Modeler can be used to prepare the required maps of projected land change.
REDD project proposals require a variety of information and are particularly complex. One of the requirements is a comparison of models of two future scenarios of deforestation. The baseline scenario projects land cover change based on historical and current land change trends. The REDD scenario projects land cover change based on the incorporation of protection mechanisms. The difference in carbon stocks, called additionality, between two such maps is then utilized to measure the potential carbon offset.
The video entitled “Time Series Analysis with Earth Trends Modeler in IDRISI” provides an introduction to the Earth Trends Modeler application within IDRISI for the analysis of image time series. Earth Trends Modeler is a revolutionary earth observation software tool that allows you to model and analyze earth trends and ecosystem dynamics. The software is specifically developed for global change research and analysis.
The video demonstrates using Earth Trends Modeler with ocean height data, sea surface temperature anomaly data and vegetation data, and guides the user through space-time visualization, the identification of linear trends, and the extraction of seasonal trends in a time series.
The videos can be found at the Clark Labs website: http://www.clarklabs.org/resources/videos.cfm.
Other videos include:
Getting Started with IDRISI
Introduction to Land Change Modeler in IDRISI
Predicting Land Cover Change with Land Change Modeler in IDRISI
The goal of the video series is to provide quick-start references on a variety of the utilities and functionality within IDRISI. In most cases, the videos are 5-10 minutes in length.
Clark Labs also hosts a video of a keynote presentation made by its Director, Dr. J. Ronald Eastman, on geotemporal analysis. This 45 minute video provides an in-depth exploration of the analysis of image time series data, and in particular, the use of the tools within IDRISI's Earth Trends Modeler application.
